The place where
proof belongs
is still empty.
Have you ever thought about life after the singularity? What should humanity do? What should we leave behind? And until that day comes — what should we be doing?
Our ancestors opened the vast expanses of land and raised their cities upon them, crossed the oceans and charted new routes, and carved their legacies into every corner of the earth.
Through the power of abstraction, humanity has reasoned, explored, and recorded — and now we stand ready to cross into the next age. And yet, upon the internet — the greatest invention since the twentieth century — we have not yet left our legacy as it deserves to be left.
Humanity, we, I — what legacy should we leave? And how?
The earliest humans pressed their handprints onto cave walls. It was not a record of what they had made, but proof that they had been here.
In an age when machines can make anything, the legacy we leave may no longer be a what.
Not what was made, but the fact that a human made it. Not the work, but the I that lives within it.
We have left countless things upon the internet — and yet not a single trace that they were ever ours.
Perhaps the final legacy is simply this: to prove that I made it.
The place where that proof belongs is still empty.
